Doctor unprofessional during pap smear

A MELBOURNE doctor and former Cleo Bachelor of the Year nominee acted unprofessionally while carrying out a pap smear on a patient, a medical board has found.

Richard Young also acted unprofessionally by digitally penetrating the woman in a way that was not medically required during the test in his suburban Ripponlea clinic in November 2004, the board found.

Dr Young told his patient "holy mackerel, you are small".

He also said "you're really small, which is great for - " at which point she cut him off by saying "not too good for having a baby".

The Medical Practitioners Board of Victoria hearing found Dr Young's behaviour was "seriously" unprofessional, but not serious enough to be considered as professional misconduct.

The board cleared Dr Young of two other allegations.

The hearing continues.
